Suriya heard the story written by Shakthi Chidambaran (Boss Engira Baskaran cameraman) and was very impressed with it. But he suggested his brother Karthi to Rajesh saying it would fit him a shade more. Suriya also ordered Karthi with love not to miss the great story. This stalwart of Tamil cinema has many passions and other than his family, Tamil literature is at the top of the list. “I just happened to start reading Kambar Ramayanam by chance when I was invited as a guest speaker in 2007 for Madurai Kambar Kazhagam. I prepared a short speech and it sparked from there,” reminisces Palanisamy Rakkia Gounder, better known to the world as actor Sivakumar. When asked about the proudest and happiest moment in recent times, he says, “It was in 2008, in the month of May. I was invited for a talk in Chennai for about an audience of 50 people on Kambar Ramayanam. It was taped and recorded with very poor audio quality. I received a call the next day from a gentleman in Vancouver. He introduced himself as a Canadian national and it was lunch hour for them when he played my recording (the one recorded the previous day) and said about a thousand odd people had thronged to listen to it. It was a proud moment not for Sivakumar but for the glory of Kambar Rama...

“We never expected that Suriya could make it this big in films. He was so timid when he was young and his fiery performance on screen is a pleasant surprise to all of us”, says Sivakumar, the proud father. The veteran actor, going down the memory lane, says, “In his college days, Suriya was a calm boy who would not even talk freely to his friends. He was as shy as I was before I entered the film industry”. On his younger son Karthi, Sivakumar says, “He is a bold guy who always wanted to make a career out of films. Even when I sent him abroad for studies, he made it clear to me that his passion was movies. And he is proving it now”. Saying that never had he advised so much to his sons, the actor adds: “All that I asked them was not to rejoice so much during victory and not to feel bad during failures. And to respect everyone with equal importance”.

None expected, indeed the actor himself. Saravanan Sivakumar completing his graduation at Loyola College never knew that he would make it so bigger in tinsel town.
