This stalwart of Tamil cinema has many passions and other than his family, Tamil literature is at the top of the list. “I just happened to start reading Kambar Ramayanam by chance when I was invited as a guest speaker in 2007 for Madurai Kambar Kazhagam. I prepared a short speech and it sparked from there,” reminisces Palanisamy Rakkia Gounder, better known to the world as actor Sivakumar. When asked about the proudest and happiest moment in recent times, he says, “It was in 2008, in the month of May. I was invited for a talk in Chennai for about an audience of 50 people on Kambar Ramayanam. It was taped and recorded with very poor audio quality. I received a call the next day from a gentleman in Vancouver. He introduced himself as a Canadian national and it was lunch hour for them when he played my recording (the one recorded the previous day) and said about a thousand odd people had thronged to listen to it. The Telugu version of Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra has received a huge response from the viewers as all the theaters in Andhra Pradesh were packed during the screening of the movie. Telugu audiences are already aware of the real life incidents which is the base of the story, so this might have increased their interest in the movie. Deepika Padukone has recently revealed her desire to star in a Tamil film. And the actress says that her first preference is no less than the Superstar Rajnikanth. She has said that the two other Tamil actors that have impressed her are Suriya and Vikram and would like to share the screen space with them too in the future. Deepika, who is a busy star in Bollywood, has done an item number in a Telugu film recently. So, it is just a matter of time to make her appearance in a Tamil flick.

He says that the movie is very gory and some raw scenes where people are tortured before they are killed was shown in a gory fashion in the movie!”Parents should not bring their children” he warns! He also shudders to think that the Paritala Ravi-Suri tussle occurred in Ananthapur in Andhra Pradesh which is just ten hours by road from his house! “I still cannot believe that such incidents happened just ten hours away from my house. I hope that this movie also makes people to shun violence” he says.
